About us

A Bristol firm built around one airport run

We're a licensed and insured private hire operator working the Bristol Airport run, not a national app that passes your booking to whoever bids lowest. We've been trading for four years, we run 45 drivers, and a person answers the phone 24 hours a day.

Airport transfers are the whole of what we do. Not school runs, not night club work, not street hails. The whole business is built around the A38 between Bristol and the terminal, and the fact that a 6:15 flight means an 04:40 pickup.

Local firm, or national app?

Local. One operator, one office, one set of drivers who do the Bristol Airport run most days of the week. Your booking isn't auctioned to a marketplace.

Who actually drives?

A licensed and insured private hire driver, driving a plated car. You get the name, the registration and a mobile number the evening before.

What if it goes wrong?

Ring the office, 24 hours a day. If we can't put it right, the council that licenses us takes complaints about licensed operators and drivers.

Who we are

One office in Bristol, one road we know very well

UK Bristol Airport Taxi is a licensed and insured private hire operator based in Bristol, running pre-booked transfers to and from Bristol Airport at Lulsgate Bottom, about seven miles south west of the city centre. We have been trading for four years, and airport transfers are the whole of what we do.

We're deliberately narrow. We don't do school runs, we don't do night club work, and we don't chase street hails. The whole business is built around the A38 between Bristol and the terminal, the Drop and Go zone opposite departures, the short stay car park across the road, and the fact that a 6:15 flight means a 04:40 pickup from the city centre.

That narrowness is the point. A driver who does the same run five mornings a week knows where the queue backs up at 04:50, which door to pull in at so you're not walking with a case in the rain, and how long the Silver Zone shuttle really takes when it's wet.

The office is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and a person answers the phone. We run 45 drivers, so the car on your road at 04:40 comes from a team that does this run every day of the week.

The drivers

Who actually turns up on your road at 04:40

A named driver, not a pool. You get the driver's name, the car, the registration and a mobile number by 21:00 the evening before, so the person on your road at 04:35 is the person you were expecting.

Every driver holds a private hire driver licence issued by the council and drives a plated, insured car. That licence is the baseline for every job, not something we produce on request.

We don't subcontract to other operators. If we can't cover a job ourselves we say so when you book, rather than passing it on quietly. On the rare occasion we do have to place a job with another licensed operator, we tell you before the day and you can cancel at no charge.

Drivers are self employed, and they keep their tips. That matters to the service you get, because the person driving you has a direct reason to be on time and to help with the cases.

Licensed, insured and plated, every job

Every driver is a badged private hire driver in a plated, insured car. If a badge or an MOT lapses, that driver comes off the rota until it is put right. That is the baseline, not a favour.

What we ask of them on the airport run

Arrive five minutes before the agreed time. Ring, don't just text. Help with the cases without being asked. Know which door to use at departures. Don't talk at the passenger at 04:40.

What we don't do

We don't run a bidding pool, we don't change the driver on the morning without telling you, and we don't put a new driver on an airport job until they've done the run with someone who knows it.

If something goes wrong

How to complain, including the route that goes over our heads

Most problems are fixed by ringing the office while they're still happening. But you should know the full ladder, including the last rung, because that one isn't ours to control and that's exactly why it matters.

  1. 01

Ring the office while it's happening

0117 471 7170, 24 hours a day. A late driver, a car that hasn't arrived, a fare that doesn't match the quote. If we can still fix it on the day, this is the call that fixes it.

  2. 02

    Put it in writing

Email complaints@ukbristolairporttaxi.co.uk with the booking reference and the date, and we'll give you a written answer setting out what we're doing about it.

Where we're at fault, a refund goes back to the card you booked with. Call us any time to chase it.

  3. 03

Take it to the council that licenses us

If our answer doesn't satisfy you, the council that licenses us takes complaints about licensed operators, drivers and vehicles. They can investigate independently, and they can suspend or revoke our operator licence and any driver's badge.

We'd rather you had that route than not. An operator who hides the escalation path is telling you something.

  4. 04

Lost property, card disputes and everything else

Anything left in a car goes into the office log the same day. Call us any time to arrange getting it back. Card payment disputes go through your bank, and we'll supply the booking record and the fare breakdown to whoever asks for it, including you.

The honest bit

When we're not the right answer

A lone traveller in a suit working on a laptop in the back of a saloon car as the city passes the window
Worth the money for the 05:00 start and the 23:40 landing, not the flexible midday single. Sample photography.

If you're travelling alone, in the middle of the day, on a flexible ticket

The A1 Flyer bus runs from the city centre to the terminal and costs a fraction of a car for one person. The single fare is £9.50, and it runs 24 hours a day. If you've got one bag, no children and an hour to spare, take it. We'd tell you the same on the phone.

The same logic applies to parking. If you're away for a single night and driving yourself, the short stay car park may well come out cheaper than two transfers. Do the arithmetic before you book us.

Where we're worth the money is the 05:00 start, the family with a buggy and three cases, the arrival at 23:40 when the bus has stopped, and the flight you genuinely cannot miss. That's the work we're built for, and we'd rather say so than pretend we're the answer to everything.

Questions people ask about us

The things worth knowing before you book

Are you a local Bristol firm or a booking app?

A local licensed operator with our own drivers and our own office in Bristol. We hold a private hire operator licence in our own name and we take the booking, allocate the driver and answer the phone ourselves. Nothing is passed to a marketplace of bidders.

Are you a licensed and insured operator?

Yes. We're a licensed and insured private hire operator with our own drivers and our own office in Bristol. Every booking is taken and dispatched under that operator licence, and every car carries hire and reward insurance.

Are your drivers licensed?

Yes. Every driver is a badged private hire driver, licensed by the council and driving a plated, insured car. The badge is the visible proof, and you can ask any driver to show it.

How long have you been trading?

Four years. Airport transfers are the whole of what we do, so those four years are all Bristol Airport runs rather than general taxi work.

What happens if the driver doesn't turn up?

Ring the office on 0117 471 7170 and we'll either move the nearest car to you or tell you honestly that we can't, so you can order something else rather than stand there hoping. Where the failure is ours, the fare is refunded in full.

Are you the cheapest way to get to Bristol Airport?

No, and we don't claim to be. For one person mid morning the Flyer bus is cheaper. We're worth it when the timing is tight, when there are two or more of you, or when the alternative has stopped running for the night.

Do you have a physical office I can visit?

Bookings are taken by phone and online, 24 hours a day, rather than at a counter, so there is no walk-in office to visit. There is always a person on 0117 471 7170, whatever the hour.
